Booze Takes Tiny Trailer World 100...

Everyone knew it was going to be a long night, nine racers, nine heats and six lanes at 100 laps per lane.  The game faces were on, the racers were focused, the snack table was full.

This pile up describes the action of the World 100!

After a long night of racing, Lee Booze outdueled Justin Liskai to win the first annual World 100 for Late Models at Redmen Raceway by a mere 2 laps.

When the green flag dropped it was clear that the green lane was the fastest and the blue lane was the most treacherous.  How drivers handled those two heats would make or break their night.  It was the first night of the season in which all six lanes were in action at once, with the extra traffic and distractions adding to the stress.

Eastern Ohio invader Bruce Minner jumped out to the early lead picking up the first heat win over Ryan Missler.  In heat 2 of 9, Justin Liskai drove the green lane to the win with Missler holding close on the outside in the white lane.  Mark Gierhart took his turn in green for the heat win, putting some distance on the competition.

By heat 4, all the drivers had cycled through at least one race in the round robin format.  Randy Dickman picked up the win in green, with Lee Booze second in the red lane.  John Warren won heat 5 in green and Ryan Missler won heat 6.  Heat 7 was the game changer.  Lily Missler crashed out while leading in green, and Justin Liskai jumped on the opportunity to pick up a second heat victory.  In that same heat, Lee Booze turned the highest lap total on the night in the blue lane with 87.

Rich Lesiecki picked up his first ever heat win at Redmen Raceway in the penultimate heat.  The final heat saw Lee Booze control his own fate finishing the fast green lane.  When the power turned off, he had a two lap edge over Justin Liskai, largely due to a solid run earlier in blue.  Mark Gierhart drove a smooth race over invader Minner to finish on the podium by a mere half a lap.  Ryan Missler recovered from a disasterous yellow lane to finish fifth.  John Warren, Randy Dickman, Rich Lesiecki and Lily Missler rounded out the field.

Place, Laps, Driver (red, green, white, orange, yellow, blue)
1. 528 Lee Booze (90, 100, 87, 86, 78, 87)
2. 526 Justin Liskai (85, 100, 100, 88, 87, 66)

It was the B Scott T shirt with its almost 20 yr old grease that did it...

JW Takes Hell Tour: Points Race Tightens Up

12-6-18:

The Late Models invaded Redmen Raceway to kick off December for two weeks of racing before the holiday break.  First up was a night of Hell Tour racing, featuring three main events for the newly molded tyco cars.

Randy Dickman and JW pose with their hard earned hardware!

In the first event, a passing points scored race, John Warren came out on top with 28 points over Justin Liskai.  Randy Dickman rounded out the podium.

5. 17 Ryan Missler (proxy racer, he went to the PRI show instead...)
6. 15 Brian Lesiecki
7. 14 Rich Lesiecki

Looks like RR needs a bigger catchfence...

The second race of the evening was a four lane/20 lap per lane event.  It was a slugfest, with numerous cautions, but when the power cut off Randy Dickman came out on top. Ryan Missler's ride finished second, with all the drivers pitching in to proxy race Missler's entry.  Lee Booze finished off the top three.

4. 74 John Warren
5. 73 Justin Liskai

The final race of the evening was a four lane/45 second per lane event.  Randy Dickman picked up his second win of the evening and along with it, the big iron for the overall night's victory. It was a close one with Dickman, Lee Booze and Justin Liskai all on the lead lap when the checkered flag fell.

Missler, Booze Share Super Dirt Week Spotlight

Last Thursday featured the last appearance of Big Block Mods for fall portion of the season, on tap were three races for the Tyco Modifieds.

First up was a four lane race using championship passing points.  When the power turned off for the last time, Ryan Missler took the win with a 26 out of 32 possible points (note: no one has ever scored a perfect main event of 8 points per heat for every heat).  Lee Booze finished in the runner up spot with 24, and Justin Liskai scored 22 points for third.

Points, Name (4 lanes x 20 laps per lane, Points 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1)

26, Ryan Missler
24, Lee Booze
22, Justin Liskai
21, John Warren
18, Rich Lesiecki
15, Randy Dickman

A grand slam, all four cars wreck at once!

The Second Main of the night was certainly the most entertaining.  After 4 lanes of 20 laps per lane, Ryan Missler and Randy Dickman were judged to be in a dead heat, by virtue of them finishing in different segments.  After considerable deliberation it was realized that Redmen Raceway has no tie breaking procedure (ed. note: in 20 years of racing there's never been a tie? Really?).  It was decided that Missler and Dickman would race a 2 lane, 5 laps per lane runoff to determine the winner.  After the dust settled Ryan Missler edged Randy Dickman by about half a corner for the victory.  Lee Booze rounded out the podium.

Laps, Name (4 lanes x 20 laps per lane)

73, Ryan Missler (+9.2 laps)
73, Randy Dickman (+9.1 laps)
70, Lee Booze
69, John Warren
68, Rich Lesiecki
68, Justin Liskai

Ryan Missler took home the hardware for the second time this season.

Kimi Raikkonen was not impressed with Missler's victory...

The final main of the evening was a 4 lane, 60 seconds per lane event.  It was going to take some extra effort to unseat Missler from the overall win on the evening, and after the time stopped Lee Booze picked up the win.  It wasn't enough however for the overall as Missler finished on the podium in third behind Randy Dickman to secure the hardware for the evening.

With Super Dirt Week in the books Redmen Raceway turns to full fendered racing until Christmas.  This coming week will be "Hell Tour" night for the never before raced "Beer Models".  The Fall portion of the season will finish up with the running of the World 100.

Here come the Beer Models (each lane a different color and different beer!)

Two out of Three Ain't Bad: Missler Takes Blaney Night

Defending Redmen Raceway champion Ryan Missler showed why he earned that title, picking up tow out of three Tyco Big Block Modified wins on Lou Blaney Memorial night.

Sheffield Lake super star John Warren took the opening event scoring 30 points over five lanes.  Randy Dickman finished runner up with 29 passing points, with the outside blue lane doing in the Elmore racer.  Ryan Missler took the tie breaker over Lee Booze for third.

Driver-Points (Green, White, Orange, Yellow, Blue)
John Warren 30 (8, 6, 4, 8, 4)
Randy Dickman 29 (8, 4, 6, 8, 3)
Ryan Missler 24 (8, 4, 4, 6, 2)
Lee Booze 24 (8, 3, 4, 6, 3)
Justin Liskai 22 (6, 3, 2, 8, 3)
Mark Gierhart 18 (6, 3, 2, 4, 3)
Lily Missler 14 (2, 2, 2, 6, 2)

Missler came back in race two, a five lane/twenty lap event.  Missler logged 94 out of the possible 100 laps for a three lap victory over Mark Gierhart.  John Warren took third with 90 laps.

94-Ryan Missler
91-Mark Gierhart
90-John Warren
89-Randy Dickman

The final race of the night featured a five lane/45 second per lane event, that became a scorer's nightmare.  Heat three of the event saw the timing equipment malfunction, forcing a rerun of that heat.  After the dust settled on the lengthy race, Ryan Missler once again came out on top with 77 laps run.  Justin Liskai legged out Randy Dickman for second by half a lap (but two behind the winner).

John Warren and Ryan Missler took home the honors last week!

Racing returns on November 29 for another night of big block modified racing honoring "Super Dirt Week".  Doors open at 6:30pm, racing begins around 7pm.

Booze Takes Opening Night Hardware

The twentieth season of racing at Redmen Raceway kicked off with a trio of events featuring Tyco LM's, Big Block Modifieds and Sprint Cars.  After the dust settled track owner Lee Booze came out on top with two wins and the early season points lead.

First up was a "Championship Points" event for late models, with each segment offering passing points for four segments total.  Randy Dickman emerged victorious on the back of two segment wins.  Lee Booze picked up one segment win and two seconds for the runner up spot.  John Warren grabbed a segment win and runner up to round out the podium.

The second main of the night was a 4x20 lap affair for Tyco Big Block Modifieds.  Lee Booze squeezed out a one lap win over Ryan Missler, based largely by picking up a lap on the high side blue lane.  Randy Dickman rounded out the top three, three laps in arrears.

The final race of the evening featured the winged Tyco Sprint cars racing in an unusual split two lanes low, two lanes high track configuration (ed. note: since we don't have a Donny Schatz car painted up, there is no car that can roll the middle like Donny...).  After four segments of 60 seconds each, Lee Booze again picked up the win over Ryan Missler and John Warren.

On November 15, Redmen Raceway will honor Ohio's greatest dirt modified racer Lou Blaney with an all modified night of racing.  Doors open at 6:30ish and racing at 7:00pm (or whenever Justin
shows up...)

Lou got upside down, but Tim McCreadie got the worst of it, that might a distance record at RR... (see finger)

Redmen Raceway Ready for 20th Season!

"We've got a big season planned," Redmen Raceway owner/promoter Lee Booze stated at the start of his pre-season press conference.  "Its hard to believe we are heading into our 20th year of H.O. Slot car racing here at Redmen Raceway.  But we want to make it something special."

"Our main goal is to give the racers something to shoot for each week other than just points and a plaque.  Each week this season will feature a sizable trophy for the night's overall winner, and the biggest iron of all will go to the season champion."

The 2018-19 Season will see action over 11 nights (33 races), with a driver's best 30 finishes counting for the points chase.  "We like the ability to drop one night if need be, but last year we instituted a proxy option for a racer who can't make it."  Each driver will be allowed two proxy nights before they have to take a zero points night.  "We are hoping the proxy option will keep the points close, mainly because we understand that not everyone can make every show."

More importantly Redmen Raceway is REDUCING pit pass entry fees for 2018-19.  "This year we are rolling back our entry fees to 1998 pricing."  One night of racing will be $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for racers under 18 (ex. last season's rookie of the year Lily Missler!).

"With one of our toughest competitors out of the points chase (Christian Booze away at college) we expect some new blood to step in an give it a go this winter," said Booze at the press gathering.

Starting with a 4x8 sheet of plywood with a small Tyco track glued on to it in the basement of an apartment in 1998, Redmen Raceway had humble beginnings.  The current incarnation of the track features six computer scored lanes of high banked action on a 5x20 footprint.  Redmen Raceway features three main classes of H.O. scale slot cars all using reliable Tyco 440x2 chassis, Late Models, DIRT Modifieds and Sprint Cars.  Each night's racing consists of three main events, each run under a different format, passing points per lane, laps per lane and time per lane.

For the 2018-19 season racing will be on Thursday nights with doors opening at 6:30pm and racing beginning at 7:00pm (or thereabouts depending on how much 1:1 racing news there is to talk about first...).

Sprint Cars Rule at RR

The last day of January featured a traditional event at Redmen Raceway, the annual running of the H.O. Brad Doty Classic.

Three sprint car races were run with an extra plaque for the overall winner on the night!  Christian Booze opened up the night with a win in the Passing Points race, notching 24 over Randy Dickman (22.2) and John Warren (22.1).  Ryan Missler, Lee Booze and Justin Liskai trailed.

In the second event (4 lanes by 20 laps) Ryan Missler, the current points leader, picked up a half-lap win over John Warren and Christian Booze (75.7, 75.3, 75.1).  Finishing a distant fourth was Lee Booze.  Randy Dickman, Justin Liskai and Rookie of the Year contender Lilian Missler rounded out the field.

In the finale (4 lanes by 60 sec.) Christian Booze again grabbed the hardware and locked up the overall win with an 85 lap run over four minutes.  Lee Booze finished one lap off the pace for second and Ryan Missler four down for third.  Rounding out the event were Justin Liskai, John Warren, Randy Dickman and Lilian Missler.

Winner Christian Booze and Rookie Lilian Missler show off some hardware!

The Sprint Cars made a return visit on February 7 for the annual King's Royal event at Redmen Raceway.

The night began with a strange twist.  Regular racer Justin Liskai was proxied for the night as the racers took turns racing for the absent driver.  Turns out it was a good night Liskai, as he took the checkered flag without even having to show up!  Liskai (or the group effort...) bagged 87 laps in the 4 lane by 60 second feature event.  Lee Booze finished second and Christian Booze finished off the podium.  Rounding out the field were Randy Dickman, John Warren, Ryan Missler and Mark Gierhart, returning after a few weeks absence.

Liskai nearly made it two in a row despite not actually being present, but Ryan Missler put a halt to that by sweeping four consecutive heats for a perfect passing points score of 32 and win.  Mark Gierhart was second and Liskai a ghost-like third.  Christian Booze, John Warren, Lilian Missler, Lee Booze and Randy Dickman finished out the field.

John Warren, made a triumphant return to victory lane in the nightcap after a few weeks of being locked out the top spot.  Warren held off Lee Booze and Randy Dickman for the win.  Christian Booze, Ryan Missler, Justin Liskai, Mark Gierhart and Lilian Missler closed out the ranks.

Winners Ryan Missler, Justin Liskai (???) and John Warren pose in victory lane!

Racing returns to RR on February 21 when the Late Models hit the track for the first time in 2018! Racing at 7pm.

Missler Opens Up Points Lead With Solid Start To New Year

The 2018 portion of the slot car racing season opened up with a change on top of two different leader boards.  Ryan Missler took over the points standings lead, and Lee Booze climbed on top of the all time win list.

Lee's Birthday Bash on January 10 was first up featuring three races for the Tyco Modifieds.  Lee Booze started his birthday race in the right way picking up the Championship Points style event over Ryan Missler and Christian Booze.  Randy Dickman, Justin Liskai and John Warren trailed.

Ryan Missler took the 25 lap/4 lane main over John Warren and Randy Dickman.  Lee Booze, Christian Booze, Lillian Missler and Justin Liskai rounded out the field.

Ryan Missler and Rookie of the Year candidate Lilian Missler celebrate in victory lane!

Randy Dickman captured the nightcap, a 4 lane/60 second per lane race.  Ryan Missler picked up his third podium of the night and was joined by Lee Booze in third.  John Warren, Christian Booze, Lillian Missler and Justin Liskai rounded out the field and the night.

On January 17, the racers returned to kick off the Sprint Car portion of the season running the Fremont Speedway Jim Ford Classic.  For the second week in a row Lee Booze picked up the opening, points style, main event.  Ryan Missler continued his good run as of late finishing second, with John Warren third.  Randy Dickman, Christian Booze and Justin Liskai finished up fourth through sixth.

Missler found his way to victory lane in the second 25 lap/4 lane event. Christian Booze and Justin Liskai cracked the podium for the first time in 2018 with a solid second and third.  Lee Booze, John Warren and Randy Dickman trailed.

Lee Booze got another in the finale, topping the new points leader Ryan Missler.  John Warren filled out the podium slots.  Justin Liskai wrapped up a strong night with a fourth and Randy Dickman and Christian Booze rounded out the race.

Racing returns on January 31 for the second all sprint car night of the season.  Doors open at 6:30pm, racing at 7pm.
