Vintage Night Results

Seven racers stepped up to the high banks of Redmen Raceway Wednesday night and coming away winners were Christian Booze (Sprints) and Randy Dickman (Modifieds).

In the Sprint main event.  Christian Booze held off Ryan Missler by one lap 111 to 110 with a spirited run for the Jim Linder vintage plaque.  Randy Dickman and Justin Liskai battled for third with Dickman edging out Liskai by less than half a lap.  Lee Booze, John Warren and Scott Ackerman were really just lapped traffic in the way.  For the second week in a row Liskai set quick time with s 2.335 clocking.

The Mod Squad event was a raucous affair.  With numerous crashes, stops, starts, and no go's the outcome was in doubt throughout the event.  When the smoke cleared it was Randy Dickman edging out Scott Ackerman by half a lap.  Ryan Missler finished third one lap behind.  John Warren and Lee Booze rounded out the top five.  Christian Booze and Justin Liskai fought to avoid the cellar.  In qualifying John Warren topped the field with 2.305 lap.

In the evening's finale, Justin Liskai prevailed in a crash and burn vintage event featuring John Warren's 1940 Tyco Ford Coupes.  Somehow we didn't get a picture of that event.

Redmen Raceway will take two weeks off before returning on 12-9 (Fremont HoF Night) and 12-16 (Super DIRT Week).

A rare piece!

The 1/64 hoserville group picked up a new auction item after Lee Booze flipped the UUI machine...

Opening night!

John Warren made the most of his trip from Sheffield Lake by sweeping the Jim Ford Classic for tyco modifieds and sprint cars.  "mid-season form for me is 16 1/2 years," said the veteran slot car racer in victory lane after capitalizing on the rusty driver of the other competitors.  Christian Booze and Justin Liskai split TQ honors in qualifying while Gracie Booze did an admirable job as the "authority" on the lap timing computer.  Box Scores will be available later.

Royal Winner Victory Lane

The winning ride

The Royal Winner

Christian Booze captured the biggest slot car win of his career on February 25, winning the first annual Redmen Raceway Royal.  This event replaced the old Spring Nationals (which seemed an odd name with eight inches of snow on the ground...)

Ryan Missler and Randy Dickman got the night going capturing the twin C Mains.  John Warren and Lee Booze got the move ups in B Main number one.  Christian Booze and John Warren took B Main number two.

Christian controlled the Feature from the outset in the Ferkel 0.  He consistently put a lap on the field each segment and drove to the five lap victory.  The typically humble winner had little to say in victory lane.  Warren, Scott Ackerman and Lee Booze rounded out the field.

As a bonus the remaining races fought it out in a short "semi" feature event with Randy Dickman coming out the easy winner over Ryan Missler, Brian Ackerman and Andrew Morfier.

Super Dirt Week Title Goes To Booze in the Blaney 10

The first annual Syracuse Super Dirt Week Modified special event is in the books and track owner Lee Booze came away with the narrow victory over son Christian Booze.  Bruce Minier, making his first appearance at Redmen Raceway this season came home in third.  Randy Dickman, running the alphabet finished fourth up from the C Main.

Dickman got the night started started with the C Main move up, with John Warren picking up C Main number two.  B Main #1 found JW with three cars qualified, forcing him to pass off two to Christian Booze and Brian Ackerman.  The pass off proved vital as Booze drove the #91 to the B Main win Randy Dickman in the #115 finishing second.  Christian Booze had two cars in the second B, giving one to Bruce Minier.  Randy Dickman continued his fine run with another victory in the Budweiser #1 winning with Lee Booze in the Lou Blaney #10.

The A Main was thus set up with Randy choosing the 1 machine and passing off the 115 to Bruce Minier.  Lee Booze and Christian Booze made up the two other starters.  It was tight race with all four drivers in the hunt early.  In the end the elder Booze edged out the younger with Minier topping Dickman for third.

One familiar and one new winner graced victory lane in the Brad Doty/Jim Ford Classic sprint car race on February 11.  Jimmy Colvin after nearly a year's absence from Redmen Raceway drove the Eric Rankin 39 to a convincing win showing he has forgotten how to pull the trigger.  Randy Dickman then added to his Redmen Raceway total with a solid finish in the Hampshire 63.

Missler, Booze Split Wins...

Wednesday January 28 featured a small but competitive field for the Fulton (NY) Speedway Victoria 200.  Ryan Missler got the evening started with the night's namesake race winning the Mod event with a convincing six lap win.

The Sprint Race was a different story.  The lead changed hands numerous times but in the end Lee Booze stopped the Missler double by a mere two inches in what may be the closest finish in Redmen Raceway history!

1-21-15 Results: Old and New at RR

Night number two at Redmen Raceway featured something old and something new.  The old news is that Ryan Missler picked up yet another win (Silver Cup), and track owner Lee Booze finally broke through with a win in the DIRT  (driving the Doug Hoffman 77).

The night started off with the mods, Lee Booze grabbed a rare, and narrow victory over rival Missler.  Sheffield, Ohio's John Warren was a close third.  Trailing were Randy Dickman and newcomer Andrew Morfier.

The Lernerville Silver Cup was the headline of the evening.  Each driver drew two cars and ran each for three lanes for six lanes of total racing.  After the first leg Missler built a five lap lead over Warren and Morfier.  Randy Dickman was three behind them and Modified winner Booze was hopelessly behind.

In leg two, Dickman charged back putting four laps on the field, but it wasn't enough as Missler ended up the overall winner.  Dickman edged out Warren for second with Andrew Morfier giving a fine showing in his rookie debut.  Booze limped home in the DW position.

Next Week the Modifieds take the center stage running the Fulton (NY) Speedway Victoria 200.  The Sprint Cars will run a regular show.

Notes from Night One

Five racers braved the cold to open the doors for the fifteenth time in Redmen Raceway's history.  Brownies were the order of the day in the concession area as there were no less than four options of the sugary treats.  The hot topic of the discussion was the All-Star/Renegade split.

The new Modifieds from Slot Body Central were a big hit and produced some exciting racing.  (I guess I'll have to pay more attention to them in Area Auto Racing News in the future!).

The fear of the old narrow 440x2 chassis of being too tired to fall off (as was the case in winter testing)  proved not to be true.  Everyone found a way to make themselves (and others) crash or at least the tricky oval played its part in causing some off track excursions.

The points are being split for this season to better reflect the different classes and the challenges of racing each.  Also thanks to the added printer to the timing system we are now awarding one (1) bonus point per lane the top laps turned.  The point will be split if two or more drivers complete the same number of laps in that lane.  With four lanes raced last night four total bonus points were awarded in each main event.

Here are the complete results:

Big Block Modifieds (4 lanes x 2 minutes)

  1. Ryan Missler-21A   171 laps
  2. Lee Booze-FX1       167
  3. Randy Dickman-91 165
  4. John Warren-00       158
  5. Christian Booze-1   118
Sprint Cars (4 lanes x 2 minutes)
  1. Ryan Missler-18     168
  2. Christian Booze-43 164
  3. John Warren-0        162
  4. Randy Dickman-2   146
  5. Lee Booze-1a          113
We are off next week but will be back in action on January 21st for the Lernerville Speedway "Silver Cup" for both TYCO Modifieds and Sprint Cars.  Doors open at 6:30pm and racing starts at 7:00pm. (We are usually done by 9pm).
