Holiday Break...

While the slot car racers of Northern Ohio are enjoying their holiday cheer, Redmen Raceway will be busy preparing for the second 2/3 of the indoor season.

We're at work retooling the supermodifieds with BSRT body mounts.  We're also in the process of adding wings to make the cars MSA and ISMA legal!

Also over break we will be attempting to construct a prototype to pour a resin version of the supermodified that will fit on the pan chassis, this will probably be an Xtreme Chassis Oswego non-wing type car.

We've also sent away for a NASCAR Modified from Resin Dude.  We hope to see if it fits on a tyco chassis.

We have three cars coming from Jim's Custom Rod Shop as well: a COT NASCAR, A NASCAR Truck and a Dirt Late Model.  All of these have possibilities.

I'd really like to do a set of trucks with Thorsport Racing so close by...

Have a Merry Christmas everyone and we'll see you in the New Year.

Two Gems This Wednesday

Tomorrow night will be the last event before the Christmas break.  On tap are two traditional Late Model events.  First up will be the National Short Track Championship.  This event is held every year at Rockford (IL) Speedway.  Steve Carlson won the 2011 event, tying legendary Joe Shear with 8 all time titles.  This year's event was an ASA Midwest sanctioned race.

Second on the racing card is appropriate as the temperatures drop as I type this.  The Five Flag Speedway Snowball Derby will be up.  Run just this past Sunday, Chase Elliott captured the win (see here on youtube).  Our event will mimick the Florida favorite running 300 laps for the finale!

Qualifying at 6:30pm, racing to follow...A good night of racing is planned, then we're off to eat Christmas cookies for a few weeks...

This Wednesday 11-30

On tap this week will be two feature events for Tyco ASA Late Models.

First up will be the Famed Milk Bowl.  The Milk Bowl is run annually at Thunderroad Speedbowl.  Owned by renowned announcer Ken Squier, Thunderroad is a staple in the New England racing scene.  Big plus: the winner gets to kiss a cow!

The second event of the evening is the Oxford 250.  Run every summer at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine, the Oxford 250 is a must win for east coast stock car jockeys.  This past summer Kyle Busch swept the weekend in Maine (and he didn't have to spin anyone to do it...).

It's an all New England weekend at Redmen Raceway.  Doors open at 6pm with qualifying starting at 6:30pm.  Sorry, you'll have to bring your own Ben and Jerry's...

New Order...

A major re-tooling of the Tyco Supermodifieds will be underway soon, as RR just put into Mattel for 20 new chassis.

We also ordered some new baloneys from Bud's HO Cars.  Also coming from Bud's HO will be some new AFX chassis.  These are pricey, but we wanted to try them out to see what good use they could be on the high banks of Redmen Raceway.  We'll have a full report once the testing is done.

2011 Season Recap

It was a short season, but a good one. With new Late Models debuting on a new high banked "Winchester" oval, Redmen Raceway can look forward to great racing next winter.

After drops were calculated Ryan Missler came home the Season Champion with 563 points. Randy Dickman held off Brian Ackerman by 3 points for the runner up spot (538 to 535). Owner Lee Booze and protege Christian rounded out the top five. Newest feature winner Zack Gardner came home sixth while Super Mod fan Mike Gardner was eighth. Maddie Brunton (also a new winner in 2011) finished seventh. Newcomer Jacob Ellis rounded out the racers.

Outdoor RC racing will be up soon in May, so charge up your batteries!

Welcome to the Main Event...Randy...

Randy Dickman (a guy who may have never seen a pavement late model race) made it two in a row at Redmen Raceway Sunday night.

Ryan Missler grabbed the points lead back from Brian Ackerman with a runner up finish over youngster Zack Gardner. Lee Booze and Christian Booze rounded out the top five. Brian Ackerman had a night to forget in sixth while Mike Gardner cruised home in seventh refusing to just "start and park".

The next event on the schedule is the Attica Spring Nationals for TYCO Sprints on Sunday April 10 (6pm...Brian...)

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!

Last weekend's debut of the ASA Late Models was a huge success. The season points lead swapped once again with Brian Ackerman holding a narrow lead over Ryan Missler. Feature winner Randy Dickman leapfrogged Lee Booze for the third spot on the podium.

This Sunday will feature the Late Models one more time before the season ending Cavalcade. On tap will be the "Main Event I" for pavement late models.

Racing begins at 6pm!

Daytona 500 Results

Well we didn't run a NASCAR race, but the Daytona 500 is in the books. The race was done in mid-90s Shootout style with three segments in descending length. Segment one ran for 2 minutes per lane, second two went 25 laps per lane. In the final segment, drivers picked the better of their two cars for all the marbles in a 30 second per lane shootout.

Lee Booze picked up the win despite not having the fastest car all night. Christian Booze and Randy Dickman's personal battles on (and off) the track cost both a shot at the podium. Booze won both early segments only to be thwarted by crashes and let's say a lack of attention...

Final Results (Laps): L. Booze (57), Brian Ackerman (53), C. Booze (50), Ryan Missler (47), Randy Dickman (46), Madey Brunton (40).

Racing will return on February 27 with the debut of the 80s ASA Late Models, a race that shouldn't be missed!

Feature (Lap Totals): Ryan Missler (104), Brian Ackerman (98), Randy Dickman (93), Lee Booze (89).
